Roulette is a popular game of chance that is played at most casinos online or otherwise. The game gets its name from the French word meaning “Little Wheel” and is derived from many different wheel-based games that were played in early England. The Roulette that is played today is a very old game and was first recorded as being played in Paris in the year 1796.

The game is played using a wheel (from which it gets its name). This wheel has a circular track that is tilted. This track is located around the circumference of the wheel. In addition, the wheel has numbered pockets and depending on the kind of game you are playing, there can be 37 or 38 pockets which are numbered from 0 to 36. The American version of the game also features the double zero or 00. All numbers are marked either red or black except for the 0 and 00 which are colored green. Once the players have all placed their bets, the wheel is spun and there is also a small white ball that is spun around the track in the opposite direction to the wheel. This ball begins to slow down and eventually stops and falls into one of the pockets on the wheel.

The pocket in which it falls determines the winning number.

The main aspect of the game is learning the different kinds of bets available. There are essentially two types of bets: The Inside Bets and the Outside Bets.

Inside Bets: These bets are usually on a number or a group of numbers that are separately demarcated on the roulette betting-table. Inside bets usually have a higher payout than the outside bets because the chances of losing are higher. There are six kinds of inside bets.

Straight Up: these are bets that are placed on a single number, and the player places his/her chip squarely in the center of a certain number on the table. This kind of bet has the highest payout of all.

Split: In a Split bet, the player places his/her chip on the line separating any two adjacent numbers, thereby betting on the chance that either of these two numbers could win. The bets can be either on numbers that are one above the other or one next to the other.

Street: The Street bet is a bet on three numbers that are present on a horizontal line. In this kind of bet, the chip is placed on the edge of the number which is at the end of the line.

Corner: This kind of bet is placed on four numbers that are two adjacent numbers each in two rows that together form a square. To place a corner bet, the player places the chip at the centre of this square

Six Line: This bet is placed on two streets and is made by placing the chip on the intersection of the two streets.

Trio: The Trio bet is placed on the intersecting point between either the 00, 2 and 3 or 0, 1 and 2.

Outside Bets: Outside bets are the lower risk bets that usually have a higher chance of winning than the inside bets. As a result, the payout on an outside bet is much lower. There are five kinds of outside bets which are 1 – 18 (a bet on the first 18 numbers), 19 – 36 (second 18 numbers), Red or Black, Even or Odd, Dozen Bets (a bet on either the first, second or third dozen numbers on the table) and column bets (wager on all numbers in any of the columns on the table).
